Metadata in the context of blockchain and NFTs refers to additional information that describes or gives context to the data or asset recorded on the blockchain. For NFTs (non-fungible tokens), metadata often includes information about the digital artwork, the creator, the history of the asset, and any associated media files. Metadata can also include information like file format, size, and other relevant properties. This data is usually stored off-chain due to storage limitations on blockchains and is referenced by the NFT token on-chain. Metadata is essential for providing value and context to digital assets on the blockchain.
